Joe Watson

Dr Joe Watson is a Senior Psychometrician at The Psychometrics Centre within the Cambridge Judge Business School, University of Cambridge. He joined the Centre in January 2021 and is available for consultancy, applying psychometric expertise to education, law, and business contexts through quantitative research methods.

His educational background includes:

• PhD in Education from the University of Cambridge
• MPhil in Environment, Society and Development from the University of Cambridge
• LLB (Honours) from the University of Keele

Dr Watson's research integrates psychometrics with data science techniques across diverse domains. He specializes in data mining and natural language processing applications for educational television impact analysis in developing countries, legal judgment classification systems, Twitter-based morality studies of powerful individuals, and educational data visualization. His multidisciplinary approach combines quantitative rigor with theoretical insights from education, law, and social sciences to solve real-world problems through actionable research outputs.

As a consultant, he has led public and private sector projects including legal analytics tool development and educational decision-support visualizations. He actively contributes to The Psychometrics Centre's mission through research collaborations like the ICAR Project and myPersonality, while participating in professional training workshops such as the BPS/EFPA Register of Qualifications in Test Use and Structural Equation Modeling in R.
