Joe Verghese

Dr. Joe Verghese is an Adjunct Clinical Professor in the Saul R. Korey Department of Neurology and Department of Medicine (Geriatrics) at Stony Brook University. He holds leadership roles as Director of the Jack and Pearl Resnick Gerontology Center and the Division of Cognitive & Motor Aging. His academic career includes a M.B.,B.S. from St. Johns Medical College (India, 1989), postgraduate training in the UK, neurology residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine (1998), and a Master of Science in Clinical Research (2001). He is board-certified in Neurology and has over 300 peer-reviewed publications.

Research focuses on aging’s impact on mobility and cognition, including pre-dementia syndromes like Motoric Cognitive Risk (MCR) and non-pharmacological interventions for dementia prevention. He leads studies on gait disorders, cognitive-motor dual-tasking, and global health initiatives. Current projects include VR-based mobility assessments, plasma proteomic profiling, and cross-cultural neuropsychological testing.
