Joe Street

Joe Street is a Professor of History at Northumbria University, specializing in interdisciplinary American Studies. He teaches modules on the San Francisco Bay Area, the American 1960s, and the Black Panther Party. His research bridges race, politics, and popular culture, particularly in the late 20th century. He served as Programme Leader for History (2010-2015) and chairs the British Association for American Studies Publications Committee. Notable works include Black Revolutionaries (2024) and Dirty Harry’s America (2016).

Research focuses on Silicon Valley ideology, African American radicalism, and cinematic representations of political movements. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and co-edits the Critical Insights in American Studies series. His work analyzes films like The Social Network and Dirty Harry, linking them to broader social and political themes.
