Joe Favour

Joe Favour serves as Associate Professor in Practice and Associate Department Head in the Department of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Interior Design at the University of Minnesota's College of Design. With over 25 years of combined academic and professional experience, he teaches design studios and landscape technology courses while maintaining active industry practice.

His educational credentials include:

• MLA from Harvard Graduate School of Design

Favour's research centers on the intersection of creative landscape design, built work implementation processes, and cost/material/performance implications. He investigates how emerging technologies transform design approaches for critical typologies like public streets and college campuses, with specialized expertise in earthwork grading and stormwater systems. His work bridges theoretical innovation with practical construction constraints.

He previously served as Head of the Landscape Architecture Department from 2014 to 2022 and maintains a limited professional practice through Minneapolis-based O2 Design.
