Dr. Joe D. Lyons serves as Assistant Professor of Security & Strategic Intelligence and Director of the Undergraduate Security & Strategic Intelligence program at Saint Louis University's School for Professional Studies. He holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy (SLU, 2011), MPA in Public Administration (Murray State University, 1999), and BS in Political Science and Legal Studies.
With 14 years in the U.S. intelligence community, including roles at the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency and overseas deployments, his expertise spans intelligence operations, strategic analysis, and military policy. His military career spanned 27 years across Army and Navy roles, including Director of the Naval Intelligence Officer Basic Course, and retirement as an Information Dominance Warfare Officer.
Research focuses on national security policy, intelligence systems optimization, and defense strategy formulation. His work bridges academic theory with operational intelligence challenges in EUCOM, CENTCOM, and NORTHCOM theaters.
