Joe Cudjoe is an Associate Professor in the Department of Justice Studies at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). He holds a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning from Florida State University, with interdisciplinary training in Sociology, Economics, and Philosophy from the University of Ghana. His research and teaching focus on addressing systemic issues affecting underserved communities, blending local and global perspectives. Key interests include electronic waste impacts on health, immigration challenges, African-American female incarceration, housing affordability, tropical deforestation, and sustainable community development.
Dr. Cudjoe has led grant-funded projects and co-founded community initiatives like the African Caribbean American Center (AFCAAM) and the Community Ambassadors for Today and Tomorrow (CATT) to enhance sustainability in Southwest Florida and beyond. He teaches courses on Global Population, Social Problems, Research Methods, and Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) with the University of Ghana.
His work integrates urban sociology, conflict resolution, and planning for developing regions, emphasizing interdisciplinary solutions to global inequities. He has contributed to initiatives addressing gentrification, NIMBYism, and affordable housing challenges.
