Joe Anderson

Joe Anderson, PhD, is a Professor of History at Mount Royal University's Faculty of Humanities. His academic career includes roles as President of the Agricultural History Society (2018–2019) and member of the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada (2019–2024). He holds a PhD from Iowa State University, an MA from the University of Kansas, and a BA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

His research focuses on agricultural and food history, rural America, and public history. Notable works include Capitalist Pigs: Pigs, Pork, and Power in America (2019) and contributions to Finding a New Midwestern History (2018). Teaching emphasizes discussion-based learning and role-playing exercises to contextualize historical events.

Anderson has received the 2018 Teaching Excellence Award from the Students' Association of Mount Royal University. His work bridges academia and public engagement, reflecting his background in museum education and administration.
