Jodi Schneider

Jodi Schneider is an Associate Professor of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, with an upcoming appointment as Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's School of Computer, Data & Information Sciences beginning August 2025. She holds affiliations with the Illinois Informatics Institute, Beckman Institute, Health Care Engineering Systems Center, and European Union Center. Her research focuses on controversies in science, argumentation, biomedical informatics, and linked data. She directs the Information Quality Lab and has held fellowships including the David F. Linowes Fellowship and the A.R. Zipf Fellowship.

Education: PhD in Library & Information Science (UIUC), MA in Mathematics (UT Austin), BA in Liberal Arts (St. John's College).

Research Interests: Schneider explores how scientific controversies are structured through evidence and argumentation, with applications in biomedical informatics, information quality, and knowledge translation. Her work on retracted science and citation practices has been published in journals like Bioinformatics and BMJ. She co-organized workshops on responsible AI and argument mining, and serves on national committees like the National Academies' Corrections and Retractions committee.

Awards: Highlights include the 2020 David F. Linowes Fellowship for research on polarized media and public health, and recognition as a role model in mobility for women scientists by the Marie Curie Alumni Association (2015).
