Dr Jodi Brooks is a prominent film studies scholar at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), affiliated with the School of Theatre and Film and the Film Studies department. Her research spans evolving screen culture, film feminisms, independent cinema, aging in cinema, and queer media.

Her research interrogates screen performance, cinema and the senses, and film genre. She explores how online screenings impact film engagement and pedagogical practices, particularly in feminist film education. Her work also bridges arts and health through dementia-friendly cinema initiatives.
Jodi’s recent publications reveal a focus on gender politics, queer narratives, and cinematic temporality. She has examined post-network television, affective terrains in media, and the role of ambivalence in aging representation.

As a dedicated supervisor, Jodi has guided 13 PhD completions and co-supervised numerous others. She serves on the Sydney Film Festival's Film Advisory Panel and co-founded the Screen Studies Association of Australia and New Zealand (SSAAANZ). Her teaching includes courses on Contemporary Approaches to Cinema, Australian Cinema, and Screen Emotions.
