Job van Boven is an Associate Professor at the University of Groningen’s Faculty of Medical Sciences, affiliated with the Department of Clinical Pharmacy & Pharmacology at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG). He leads the research group on Cost-effective & Sustainable & Digitally assisted Drug Use and serves as Principal Investigator at the Groningen Research Institute for Asthma and COPD (GRIAC) and the Real World Studies in PharmacoEpidemiology, -Genetics, -Economics and -Therapy (PEGET) group. He founded the Medication Adherence Expertise Center of the northern Netherlands (MAECON) and chaired the European Commission-funded ENABLE COST Action, involving 40 countries.
His expertise spans respiratory medication outcomes, digital adherence technologies, and sustainable drug use. He completed his PharmD and PhD at the University of Groningen, with postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Colorado, Monash University, and Hospital Universitario Son Espases. He has supervised 15 PhD students, authored over 200 publications (H-index 46), and secured >€6 million in grants.
Key roles include Chair of the European Respiratory Society CRC 'CONNECT' on digital respiratory health, Board Member of Lung Alliance Netherlands, and editorial board member of multiple journals. His research focuses on asthma/COPD/TB/Lung Cancer, emphasizing cost-effectiveness, adherence, and digital health innovations.
He has received awards such as the European Respiratory Society ECM Award 2024 and KNMP Zorginnovatieprijs 2025. His work addresses global health challenges, including sustainable drug use and equitable access to therapies.
