Job Mwaura

Dr. Job Mwaura is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology within the Faculty for the Study of Culture at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, actively contributing to the ERC-funded SMALL PLATFORMS project under Principal Investigator Prof. Sahana Udupa.

His research centers on digital media studies in Africa, examining digital platforms, AI ethics, digital activism, and the societal impact of emerging technologies through an anthropological lens. He investigates how cultural practices and social structures in African contexts shape and are reshaped by technological adoption, emphasizing ethical governance and community-driven digital innovation.

Dr. Mwaura has served two consecutive terms on the Executive Committee of the Association of Internet Researchers (AOIR), influencing global discourse on internet research ethics and digital governance. His current work with the SMALL PLATFORMS project analyzes the societal role of small-scale digital platforms, highlighting their potential for inclusive participation beyond dominant corporate ecosystems.
