Joar Røkke Fystro is a Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Oslo’s Department of Health Management and Health Economics, affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine. His research focuses on healthcare ethics, bio(technology)ethics, and the intersection of financial incentives with health policy. He holds a Master of Philosophy in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences (2020) and dual Bachelor’s degrees in Physiotherapy (2017) and Social Work (2014) from OsloMet.
His PhD project explores the normative foundations of patient non-attendance fees. Key research interests include ethics in physiotherapy, personal health responsibility, and the epistemology of healthcare policies. He has published extensively on topics such as compensation for egg donation, policy analysis of non-attendance fees, and the ethical implications of nudges in treatment.
Teaching roles include courses on policy analysis (HMAN5180), health economics theses (HLED3000), and critical perspectives on health (MF9185). Collaborations include a 2023 visit to Rutgers University’s Center for Population-Based Bioethics.
Research affiliations include the Health Economics and Policy Group. Projects involve analyzing healthcare financing schemes, mortality measurement ethics, and the normative basis of health policies.
