Joanne Scott is Professor of European Law at the European University Institute and Co-Director of the Academy of European Law. Her research addresses European environmental law, climate governance, and EU external relations, with emphasis on transnational regulatory challenges.
She explores the interplay between WTO rules and environmental protection, climate justice principles, and innovative EU funding mechanisms. Recent work analyzes the 'common but differentiated responsibilities' framework in global climate action.
Scott supervises doctoral candidates in EU external relations law and has published critical commentaries on sanitary/phytosanitary measures. She is a Fellow of the British Academy and the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
