Joanne Freeman is Class of 1954 Professor of American History at Yale University, specializing in revolutionary and early national U.S. politics. Her research explores political culture, congressional violence, and settler colonialism, with publications including 'Affairs of Honor: National Politics in the New Republic' and 'Alexander Hamilton: Writings'.
A fellow of the Society of American Historians, she has received numerous fellowships and serves as Distinguished Lecturer for the Organization of American Historians. She regularly teaches graduate and undergraduate courses on early national politics and the American Revolution.
