About
Professor Joan Lockyer serves as Professor of Education Practice (Entrepreneurship) and Head of the School of Strategy and Leadership (SSL) at Coventry University, where she also holds the position of Director of Education. She spearheads the design, development, and delivery of enterprise and entrepreneurship education programs both domestically and internationally through online and face-to-face modalities, while actively fostering stronger collaboration between higher education institutions and industry across diverse cultural contexts.
Her research critically examines the transformative power of entrepreneurship through education, with concentrated focus on the dynamic interplay between policy frameworks, innovation ecosystems, and leadership practices. She maintains a significant research commitment to gender dynamics within entrepreneurial spaces, investigating how gender influences access to resources, opportunity recognition, and educational outcomes in entrepreneurial contexts. This work directly informs her capacity-building initiatives that strengthen entrepreneurship education across global higher education systems.
As an academic leader, Professor Lockyer has directed multiple international projects that bridge theoretical entrepreneurship concepts with practical industry applications, creating culturally responsive educational models that address regional economic development needs while promoting inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystems through evidence-based policy engagement.
