Joachim Becker

Joachim Becker is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Wien). His research focuses on Development Economics, Regulation Theory, State Theory, Regional Integration, and Mercosur. He has authored or co-authored 583 publications, including peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and edited volumes. His work spans topics such as neo-nationalism in Hungary and Poland, climate policy regression in Europe, and the theoretical underpinnings of regulation. He has led six research projects, including studies on economic growth in the Mediterranean and EU relations with Russia and Serbia. His activities include over 160 engagements in academic conferences, peer reviews, and editorial roles. He has contributed to 24 media pieces, addressing issues like EU enlargement and the socio-economic impacts of sanctions.
