About
Jo Evans is a Lived Experience Researcher at King's College London's Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, affiliated with the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre. She facilitates the Service User Advisory Group (SUAG) and conducts research at the intersection of patient and public involvement (PPI) and mental health service development.
Her research expertise spans qualitative methodologies, patient-reported outcome measures, and survivor research principles. Current work examines how lived experience integration improves mental health research quality through her BRC-funded PhD. She has contributed to diverse projects including cognitive remediation therapy evaluation, pandemic coping mechanisms, and integrated financial-mental health services.
Research trends show consistent focus on methodological innovation in PPI, with recent publications emphasizing implementation science and user-centered measure development. Her work bridges academic research and practical service improvement through participatory frameworks.
As a doctoral candidate supervised by Professor Dame Til Wykes and Dr. Angela Sweeney, she contributes to multiple active grants within the Maudsley BRC portfolio. Her collaborative work spans international teams including European palliative care researchers and global mHealth developers for neurological conditions.
Evans leads participatory research initiatives where service users co-design studies and measures. Her SUAG facilitation since 2017 has reviewed over 50 research protocols, establishing her as a key contributor to meaningful patient involvement in mental health science.
