Jo Buckberry

Jo Buckberry is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Bradford within the Faculty of Life Sciences and the School of Archaeological & Forensic Sciences. She leads the MSc Human Bioarchaeology and Palaeopathology program, serves as Head of the Biological Anthropology Research Centre (BARC), and holds the School EDI (Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion) lead role.

Jo’s research focuses on the archaeological and palaeopathological analysis of human remains from the Anglo-Saxon, medieval, and post-medieval periods. Her work explores the interplay between osteological indicators of identity and burial practices, variations in mortality and morbidity across burial contexts, and the application of sex and age estimation techniques in skeletal remains. She is currently investigating the health impacts of the Industrial Revolution through bioarchaeological methods.

She teaches modules such as Bones, Bodies and Burials (ARC6030-B), Palaeopathology (ARC7029-C), and Analysis of Human Remains (ARC7008-B). Jo is also a co-chair of N-Able, the university’s network for disabled staff, and participates in multiple EDI committees.
