Prof. Li specializes in early modern Japanese literature and culture, focusing on popular literature, print culture, and nineteenth-century cultural identity. Her current book project examines shogakai—calligraphy and painting gatherings that linked literati and amateurs to form cultural networks. She also explores digital humanities methods and paleography education.
Her recent publications analyze themes like fūryū (elegance) in twentieth-century Japan and metaphorical narratives in historical texts. These works reflect her engagement with Edo-period studies and interdisciplinary approaches to cultural history.
Jingyi Li joined Occidental in 2024, with office hours held in Johnson Hall 404. She continues to bridge traditional and digital methodologies in her research and teaching.
