Jing Zeng is a Senior Lecturer and senior research associate at the University of Zurich's Department of Media and Communication Research. She holds an MSc in Social Science of the Internet from the University of Oxford and a PhD in Media and Communications from Queensland University of Technology (Australia). Her research focuses on digital technologies' societal impacts, science communication, and platform studies, with a current emphasis on AI imaginaries in China and global contexts. She previously served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Leibniz Institute for Media Research (2018–2021).
Her work integrates interdisciplinary approaches, analyzing topics such as misinformation during the pandemic, viral science communication on TikTok, and gender-based activism on Chinese social media. At the MPIWG, she collaborates with the Lise Meitner Research Group to study AI governance in China. Key contributions include examining public discourse on AI in China and cross-national infodemic dynamics. She actively engages with academic and public audiences through conferences, keynote lectures, and teaching digital media studies.
