About
Jin-Quan Yu is a Professor and Bristol Myers Squibb Endowed Chair in Chemistry at The Scripps Research Institute. His research focuses on C-H activation, catalysis, and synthetic organic chemistry. He leads a lab collaborating with academic and industrial partners (e.g., BMS, Syngenta) to develop novel bond-forming reactions.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, University of Cambridge (1999)
- M.S. in Organic Chemistry, Guangzhou Institute (1990)
- B.S. in Chemistry, East China Normal University (1987)
Research Interests:
- Rational design of C-H activation reactions
- Asymmetric catalysis and ligand design
- Sustainable synthesis methods for drug candidates
- Applications in natural product total synthesis
Awards:
- MacArthur Fellowship (2016)
- ACS Cope Award (2012)
- Member of American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2019)
- Over 20 major awards spanning methodology development and mentorship
His work bridges mechanistic studies, computational modeling, and industrial collaboration. Key projects include γ-C(sp3)-H lactonization, remote meta-C-H activation, and AI-driven catalyst design.
