Jimmy R. Caldwell, Jr.

Dr. Jimmy R. Caldwell, Jr. is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Education & Counseling at Xavier University of Louisiana, specializing in Special Education. His interdisciplinary research examines systemic inequities shaped by the intersection of race, disability, and educational policy.

Using frameworks such as Blackness as Disability and the White Power Theoretical Framework, Dr. Caldwell critiques deficit-based models in special education. He recently authored a forthcoming book chapter titled Reclaiming AI Equity in Special Education: Justice in a Post-Federal Era, which applies UDL and DisCrit to address algorithmic bias and reimagine AI as a tool for participatory justice.

As Director of the Xavier University Community Outreach Center (XUCOC), he integrates scholarship, advocacy, and service to empower historically marginalized communities through education initiatives.
