Jimena Perry is an Assistant Professor in the History Department at Iona University. She specializes in memory studies, human rights, and public history in Latin America, particularly Colombia. Her research examines how communities and individuals negotiate historical narratives of violence, museums, and cultural heritage. Perry holds a Ph.D. in History from The University of Texas at Austin, an MPhil in Social Anthropology from the University of Cambridge, and a BS in Anthropology from Universidad de Los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia.
Her teaching includes courses on Latin American history and drug trafficking, reflecting her focus on transnational issues and public engagement. Perry serves as Project Manager of the International Federation for Public History’s Explorers initiative since 2018, emphasizing decolonial approaches and global south perspectives. Her publications explore topics such as guerrilla memory struggles, museum curation of violence, and digital communities in public history.
Perry’s work bridges academic and public spheres, advocating for inclusive historical narratives. Recent projects include analyzing transnational memory dynamics in Colombia and Venezuela and curating exhibitions addressing historical trauma. Her scholarship highlights the intersection of anthropology, history, and activism to foster dialogue on unresolved pasts.
