Jim Shaffer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Case Western Reserve University. He holds a Ph.D. (1972) and M.A. (1967) in Anthropology from the University of Wisconsin and Arizona State University, respectively, and a B.A. (1965) from Arizona State University.
His research focuses on South Asian prehistoric and early historic cultures, specializing in the Bronze and Iron Ages (5000 B.C.–A.D. 500). Key areas include archaeological surveys across Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India; excavations at the Indus Valley site of Allahdino; and analysis of Indo-Aryan/European invasions. He currently leads excavations at Watgal, India—a site continuously inhabited since 3000+ B.C.
