Jim Murdoch is a Professor of Economics and Public Policy at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), affiliated with the School of Economic, Political, and Policy Sciences. Previously, he served as Dean of the School of Social Sciences from 2001 to 2005. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Wyoming (1982) and a B.A. from Grand Valley State Colleges (1978). Before joining UTD in 1991, he taught at the University of Louisiana Monroe and Auburn University at Montgomery.
His research focuses on environmental economics, public economics, defense economics, and spatial econometric methods applied to local economic development. Murdoch employs applied econometric techniques for policy analysis and prescription. He has published extensively in journals such as the Quarterly Journal of Economics, Review of Economics and Statistics, and Journal of Environmental Economics and Management.
