Jim Maher, PhD, is Clinic Director at the Michigan School of Psychology (MSP), where he joined in August 2019 to help develop the Psychology Training Clinic. He holds a PhD and MA in Clinical Psychology and a BS in Psychology and Religious Studies, all from the University of Detroit. A licensed psychologist in Michigan, Dr. Maher has over two decades of clinical experience in psychiatric inpatient settings, notably at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital.
His expertise spans individual and group psychotherapy, geriatric psychology, and ethics in healthcare. He previously served as Lead Clinician for Behavioral Services and directed psychology training programs for interns and practicum students. He has also been an Adjunct Professor and Supervisor at the University of Detroit Mercy for fifteen years, teaching courses such as Group Therapy and Psychology in a Hospital Setting.
Dr. Maher's clinical and teaching philosophy emphasizes empathy, creativity, and fostering a supportive environment for personal and professional growth. He is committed to student development and views graduate training as a time for exploration and discovery.

Dr. Maher is actively engaged in clinical training, supervision, and program development at MSP. He has played a key role in establishing the Psychology Training Clinic and continues to mentor students in clinical practice.
