Jim Craig is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Missouri–St. Louis (UMSL), where he also serves as Department Chair of Sociology and Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. A 25-year U.S. Army veteran with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, he founded UMSL’s Veterans Studies Program and established the UMSL Student Veterans Center, contributing to the university’s recognition as "Best for Vets" and "Military Friendly."

Craig contributes to the field through his role on the editorial board of the Journal of Veterans Studies and the executive board of the Veterans Studies Association. His 2015 paper Bounding Veterans Studies is foundational in establishing Veterans Studies programs nationwide.
