About
Dr. Jim Conway is a Senior Researcher in the School of Physical Sciences at Dublin City University (DCU). He joined DCU in 2001 as Industrial Training Manager for the Plasma Research Laboratory (PRL), which later became part of the National Centre for Plasma Science and Technology (NCPST). His role involves developing and delivering education and training programs in plasma and vacuum technology tailored for high-tech industries in Ireland. He currently oversees the web-based Certificate in Plasma and Vacuum Studies and contributes to the Graduate Diploma/M.Sc. in Plasma and Vacuum Technology.
His research focuses on optical diagnostics for industrial plasmas, including applications of Laser-Induced Fluorescence (LIF) and Time-Resolved LIF (TALIF) to monitor species like atomic oxygen in argon/oxygen plasmas. He also investigates negative ion density measurement using laser photodetachment combined with hairpin probes.
Dr. Conway’s work bridges academic research and industrial application, supporting the advancement of plasma technologies in manufacturing and related sectors.
