About
Jim Barge is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Management at Mount St. Joseph University, teaching undergraduate and 4+1 MBA courses. With 38 years of leadership experience in civilian and military organizations, he is a retired US Navy Captain who served in the submarine force and reserves while holding leadership roles at GE Aerospace. His academic work bridges leadership, ethics, and philosophy, focusing on moral worldviews and organizational dynamics, including the intersection of leadership and artificial intelligence.
His research centers on developing a survey instrument grounded in Alasdair MacIntyre’s philosophical frameworks to assess moral worldviews of organizational leaders. This work builds on his 2019 co-authored article in the Business & Professional Ethics Journal, exploring challenges to leadership-as-practice through traditionalism, rationalism, sentimentalism/emotivism, and perspectivism.
Jim is currently completing his Ph.D. at the University of Exeter, following an MBA from Xavier University and a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His career spans academia, military service, and corporate process improvement, with adjunct teaching roles at Point University and Palm Beach Atlantic.
