Jill L Jermano

Dr. Jill L Jermano serves as a Professorial Lecturer (part-time) in the Department of Political Science and Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University (GWU), where she has taught since 2004. She also holds an adjunct lecturer role in Georgetown University’s Applied Intelligence program. Her expertise spans international security, illicit finance, and U.S. foreign policy.

Education:

• Ph.D. and M.Phil. in Political Science (GWU)
• Master of Public Management in National Security Policy (University of Maryland)
• Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (University of Illinois)

Professional Background:

• 15+ years in the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Intelligence and Analysis (OIA), managing proliferation finance analysis and analytic tradecraft.
• Treasury Department Chair at the National War College (2016–2017), teaching national security strategy.
• Prior roles include senior researcher at the Homeland Security Institute and defense R&D analyst specializing in nonproliferation.

Teaching & Research: Teaches courses on international security, illicit finance, and U.S. foreign policy. Her research focuses on economic statecraft and has been published in Strategic Review, Parameters, PRISM, and JustSecurity.org.
