Dr. Deng's research program specializes in myeloid cell biology within the tumor microenvironment. Her work investigates how myeloid cells - the predominant cellular subset in many tumors - can be reprogrammed from immunosuppressive functions toward initiating durable anti-tumor immunity. This research bridges radiation therapy, immunotherapy, and cancer progression with significant implications for treatment resistance and metastasis. Her clinical expertise includes advanced radiation techniques such as stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) and magnetic resonance-guided radiation therapy (MRgRT) for lung and gastrointestinal cancers.
Analysis of Dr. Deng's recent publications reveals a strong focus on translational radiation oncology with particular emphasis on prostate cancer imaging and treatment, tumor immunology, and advanced radiotherapy techniques. Her work spans basic science investigations of immune mechanisms to clinical applications of novel imaging modalities for treatment planning.
- ASCO Conquer Cancer Young Investigator Award, 2022
- ASTRO Annual Meeting Basic Translational Award, 2022
- Ruth L. Kirschstein Institutional National Research Service Award, 2022-2023
- UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center Fellowship Award, 2021-2022
- NIH grants recipient
Dr. Deng leads a research program studying myeloid cell responses to radiotherapy and immunotherapy through both laboratory investigations and clinical trials. Her work has secured significant funding including NIH grants and the ASCO Young Investigator Award. She is affiliated with the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center's Tumor Immunology & Immunotherapy program and maintains hospital privileges at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center. Her clinical practice focuses on pancreatic diseases, esophageal cancer, lung cancer, anal cancer, and advanced radiation techniques.
