Jessie Sutherland

Dr. Jessie Sutherland is an ARC DECRA Fellow and Research Fellow in the School of Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy at the University of Newcastle. Her research focuses on reproductive biology, particularly ovarian development and infertility mechanisms, with a strong emphasis on the JAK/STAT signaling pathway and Musashi RNA-binding proteins. She is also actively involved in teaching biomedical science and pharmacy courses, emphasizing hands-on leadership and innovation in education through programs like the Advanced Leadership Program.

Her research explores key areas including premature ovarian failure, ovarian aging, and the molecular regulation of germ cell development. Notable achievements include securing an NHMRC Early Career Fellowship and an ARC DECRA grant. She has collaborated extensively with institutions like HMRI and the Priority Research Centre for Reproductive Science.

Dr. Sutherland has supervised multiple PhD students, including work on fertility awareness in adolescents and the impact of environmental toxins on reproductive health. Her recent projects include investigating placental ACE2 in fetal growth and developing educational initiatives to improve fertility literacy among young people.

Her awards include the Society for Reproductive Biology Early Career Award and UON academic distinctions. She maintains active roles in professional societies such as the Australian Society of Reproduction.
