Jessica Veenstra

Jessica Veenstra is Professor and Natural Sciences Department Chair at Flagler College. She teaches Coastal Hazards, Science Communication, GIS, Coastal Processes, and Capstone courses. Education includes a Ph.D. from Iowa State University and M.S./B.S. from UC Davis.

Research integrates coastal erosion mitigation, sedimentology, and living shoreline strategies using oyster reefs. Fieldwork assesses carbon accumulation and sediment stability in restored ecosystems. Recent articles (2016-2023) analyze nearshore fish communities, nitrogen cycling, and sedimentary organic matter dynamics.

She received the Dean's Award for Excellence in Professional Development. Her capstone projects emphasize interdisciplinary coastal science and geospatial applications.
