Jessica Sun

Jessica Sun is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Emory University, specializing in civil conflict and authoritarian regimes. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Michigan (2020) and a B.A. from Duke University (2014). Her research employs formal models to analyze repression, tactical decision-making in conflicts, and the interplay between domestic and international politics. Sun has published in top journals like the American Journal of Political Science and the American Political Science Review.

Her research interests include the strategic use of state violence, foreign intervention dynamics, and the stability of authoritarian regimes. She also explores how repression influences migration patterns and conflict outcomes. Recent work examines Russia’s invasion of Ukraine through the lens of crisis bargaining and domestic politics.
