Jessica Patterson

Jessica Patterson is Assistant Professor in History and Politics at the University of Cambridge, Fellow and Director of Studies at Trinity College, and Affiliated Lecturer. She received her PhD from the University of Manchester as a President's Doctoral Scholar. Her research centers on British and South Asian intellectual culture from the 18th-20th centuries, with emphasis on empire and Enlightenment ideologies.

Her award-winning book Religion, Enlightenment and Empire examines British interpretations of Hinduism in relation to imperial politics. Current research explores connections between Britain's imperial expansion in India and radical political thought (1780s-1850s).

Dr. Patterson lectures on Enlightenment political thought and international political history. She supervises MPhil students in World History and Political Thought, focusing on British imperial ideologies.
