Dr. Jessica Kay Flake serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology within the Faculty of Arts at the University of British Columbia. She relocated her laboratory to UBC in Fall 2024 after establishing and leading her research group at McGill University from 2018 to 2024, where she earned tenure in 2024.

Her research focuses on applied measurement and modeling, spanning theoretical instrument development to psychometric latent variable applications. Dr. Flake pioneers open science practices including registered reports and analysis planning frameworks for methodological research. She investigates measurement equivalence in multi-group contexts, clustered data structures, and replication challenges while collaborating on studies of achievement motivation and non-cognitive skills.
Leading the Flake Lab within UBC's Quantitative Methods research stream, she mentors graduate students Mairead Shaw, Lindsay Jane Alley, Tanoulu Li, and Cole Johnson. Her former advisees include Jake Plantz (PhD) and Raymond Luong (Master's). The lab maintains ongoing McGill University affiliations and specializes in transparent measurement methodologies, with current projects addressing open science implementation and psychometric modeling standards.
