Jessica Haskins is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Utah. She holds a B.Sc. in Earth, Atmospheric, & Planetary Sciences from MIT (2014), an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Washington (2017–2020), and completed an NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship at MIT (2020–2022). Her research focuses on atmospheric chemistry, particularly the role of halogens and unconventional oxidants in air quality and climate modeling.
Her work emphasizes understanding heterogeneous chemical processes, including chlorine cycling in the troposphere, and the impacts of anthropogenic emissions on pollutants like particulate matter and ozone. She has contributed to studies on the shrinking Great Salt Lake’s effects on regional air quality and the unintended consequences of geoengineering solutions for methane reduction. Her teaching includes courses on atmospheric chemistry, environmental programming, and graduate seminars.
Her research group, the Haskins Group, actively investigates topics such as playa dust emissions and their halogen contributions. She has secured a grant (2023–2026) to study atmospheric mercury redox rates. Her Twitter presence highlights engagement with public discourse on air quality and climate science.
