Jessica Barr is an Assistant Professor cross-appointed to Cultural Studies and the Honours Bachelor of Arts and Science program at Trent University, where she also serves as Coordinator for the Bachelor of Arts & Science. Her doctoral research from Queen's University focused on ecological elegies through arts-practice-based methodologies.
Professor Barr's interdisciplinary work integrates:
- Environmental art and sound installations
- Participatory research-creation at art-science intersections
- Queer, somatic, and Indigenous-led frameworks
- Ecological justice and social activism
Notable projects include the award-winning Vernal Pool collaboration (2014) and Toronto Nuit Blanche's Indicator installation (2013), both exploring ecological themes through immersive soundscapes. Her contributions have been recognized with the GROUND Award and Jury's Choice Award from the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects.
