About
Jessica Abbott is Professor and Head of the Department of Biology at Lund University. Her research examines evolutionary genetics, focusing on sexual antagonism and sex chromosome evolution using Drosophila melanogaster and Macrostomum lignano model systems. She leads multiple projects including experimental evolution studies and genomic investigations of sex determination systems.
Research interests include:
- Genetic conflicts between sexes
- Maintenance of genetic variation
- Hermaphroditic evolution
- Transcriptomic approaches in evolution
Her recent publications (2022-2024) demonstrate strong focus on sexual dimorphism mechanisms, evolutionary genomics, and experimental approaches to studying adaptation. Article themes consistently explore genetic conflicts, reproductive strategies, and methodological advances in evolutionary biology.
Dr. Abbott leads the following projects:
- Experimental evolution of dosage compensation (Swedish Research Council funded)
- Evolutionary consequences of genetic sex determination
- Micromanipulation platform for advanced genetics research
