Jesse Klein is a Lecturer and Faculty Director of the MPS GEM program and the Information Challenge Event at the University of Maryland's College of Information Studies. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology and M.S. in Information Science from Florida State University. Her expertise spans social science research methods, data privacy, and information justice, with a focus on sociotechnical systems and ethical technology use.
Her research interests include data science applications in social justice, cybersecurity's sociotechnical dimensions, and library science innovations. She has developed training programs on research data services and collaborated with stakeholders across academia and nonprofits. Jesse is also a grant writer specializing in social justice initiatives for women, survivors of domestic violence, and formerly incarcerated individuals.
Associated with the Social Data Science Center (SoDa), her work bridges sociological inquiry with technological ethics. Recent publications examine activist identity in political movements, ICT-driven emotional dynamics, and visual sociology in media analysis.
