Jesse Bellemare is an Associate Professor of Biological Sciences at Smith College. He holds a Ph.D. from Cornell University and an M.F.S. from Harvard University. His research explores plant ecology, biogeography, and evolutionary biology with emphasis on historical influences on contemporary plant distributions.
Research investigates range dynamics of plant species in eastern North America following glacial retreat, examining seed dispersal limitations and climate change impacts. Additional work includes plant community evolution in Temperate Deciduous Forests and land-use effects on vegetation at the Ada and Archibald MacLeish Field Station.
