Dr. Jesse Alemán is a Professor of English and a Presidential Teaching Fellow at the University of New Mexico’s Department of English Language and Literature. His research focuses on 19th-century American and US Latinx literary/cultural histories, Chicano/a literatures, Southwestern film, and race studies. He has authored books like Latinx Civil Wars (forthcoming, NYU Press) and republished The Woman in Battle. He co-edited volumes such as Empire and the Literature of Sensation and The Latino Nineteenth Century. He has directed nearly 20 doctoral dissertations.
