Jess Gwynne serves as a Teaching Professor and Director of Undergraduate Teaching in the Department of Materials Science & Metallurgy at the University of Cambridge, while also holding a fellowship and Director of Studies position for Materials Science at St Catharine's College.
She earned her MA, MSci, and PhD from the University of Cambridge, followed by doctoral and post-doctoral research at the Cambridge Centre for Medical Materials where she investigated polymeric spinal disc replacements, collagen fibres for ligament/tendon regeneration, and bone regeneration scaffolds.
Her research expertise spans Biomaterials, Tissue Engineering, and Regenerative Medicine, with practical applications in polymer-based medical devices and structural tissue repair systems. She actively teaches core courses including Non-Metallic Materials, Electronic Properties of Materials, and Biomaterials.
In her administrative capacity, she leads undergraduate curriculum coordination through the Teaching Committee and oversees student academic progression at St Catharine's College, ensuring comprehensive educational development for Materials Science undergraduates.
