About
Prof. Jerzy Sokolnicki is a Professor of Chemical Sciences at the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Wrocław, Poland. Affiliated with the university since 1981 (with interruption during martial law), he currently leads research in the Luminescent Materials Group and holds membership in the International Sol-Gel Society and Polish Chemical Society.
His academic background includes:
- Master's in Chemistry, University of Wrocław (1981)
- PhD in Chemistry, University of Wrocław (1998) supervised by Prof. Janina Legendziewicz
- Postdoctoral Fellowship at Michigan Technological University (2000)
- Habilitation (2013)
- Professor title awarded by President of Poland (2021)
His research focuses on luminescent materials for lighting and display technologies, specializing in phosphors for white-light LEDs, excitation energy upconversion, antenna effect phenomena, and thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF). Current projects target oxo-nitride phosphors for LEDs and TADF materials for OLED displays.
With over 60 publications and 90 conference presentations including plenary lectures, his work spans national and international projects such as two European synchrotron-based studies at Hasylab-Desy in Hamburg.
He has received multiple Rector's Awards for Research Activities from the University of Wrocław.
Prof. Sokolnicki has secured several research grants and organized major conferences including the International Conference on Luminescence (ICL) and International Conference on f-elements (ICFE). His international collaborations include research stays in Germany, Israel, Vietnam, Ukraine, and the USA.
As a core member of the Luminescent Materials Group, he advances materials chemistry for next-generation optoelectronic applications through structural, morphological, and spectroscopic studies of novel phosphor systems.
