Jerry Y.S. Lin

Dr. Jerry Y.S. Lin is a Regents' Professor of Chemical Engineering at the School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy at Arizona State University (ASU). He leads the Membrane and Energy Laboratory and has made significant contributions to inorganic membrane science, adsorption, separation technologies, catalysis, fuel cells, energy storage, and carbon dioxide capture. Previously, he was a Professor and Co-Director of the NSF Center for Membrane Applied Science and Technology at the University of Cincinnati and served as ASU's Chemical Engineering Department Chair (2006–2009).

• Education: Sc.D. (Inorganic Materials, University of Twente, 1992), Ph.D. (Chemical Engineering, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, 1988), M.S. (Chemical Engineering, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, 1985), B.S. (Chemical Engineering, Zhejiang University, 1982).

Dr. Lin’s research focuses on inorganic membrane technologies for gas separation, carbon capture, and energy applications, including dual-phase ceramic-carbonate membranes and metal-organic frameworks. His work addresses challenges in membrane synthesis, thermal stability, and industrial scaling, with over 330 peer-reviewed articles and 16 patents. He has delivered 200+ invited lectures globally.

Mentoring and grants highlight his leadership in training over 100 postdoctoral researchers and graduate students, with major funding from NSF, DOE, and industry partnerships. He co-edits the Journal of Membrane Science and founded JMS Letters.
