Dr. Jerry Goodenough is an Honorary Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of East Anglia's School of Politics, Philosophy and Area Studies. Having returned to academia later in life, he holds a Ph.D. in Personal Identity from UEA (1997), an MA from Birkbeck College, and a BA from the Open University. His research spans philosophy of mind, critical thinking, and film philosophy.
Research Focus: Examines personal identity through Derek Parfit's framework, critical thinking applications to conspiracy theories, and the philosophical dimensions of thought experiments. Additional work explores the intersection of philosophy and cinema, including analyses of AI depictions in popular culture.
Teaching: Previously taught courses on the Enlightenment, Nietzsche, philosophy of religion, and film as philosophy at UEA and for the Open University (1999-2017). Developed specialized modules on personal identity and supervised numerous dissertations.
Publications: Works include philosophical analyses of personal identity, critiques of thought experiment methodology, and explorations of philosophical themes in film and science fiction.
