About
Dr. Jeroni Galmés Galmés is a Professor of Plant Physiology at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), within the Department of Biology. He teaches across Agricultural and Rural Engineering, Biology, and Applied Biotechnology programs, maintaining active instructional responsibilities through the 2025-26 academic year.
His educational foundation includes:
- Bachelor's in Biology (2001), University of the Balearic Islands
- Master's in Quality and Environmental Management (2001), University of the Balearic Islands
- PhD in Biology (2006), University of the Balearic Islands, supervised by Dr. Jaume Flexas
Dr. Galmés Galmés' research centers on Plant Physiology with dual emphases: the ecophysiology of natural vegetation and crops and the molecular characterization of CO2 assimilation mechanisms. His work investigates plant adaptation to environmental stressors and photosynthetic efficiency, bridging fundamental physiological processes with agricultural applications. This research has direct implications for crop resilience under climate change and sustainable farming systems.
He actively contributes to UIB's research ecosystem through membership in two consolidated R&D groups:
- PlantEcophys: Focused on plant ecophysiological responses in natural and managed ecosystems
- PlantAgro: Dedicated to advancing vegetable production and agroecological practices
