Dr. Jerome Rachele is a Senior Lecturer in Public Health and serves as the Discipline Lead for Public Health and Deputy Head of Program for Allied Health in the College of Sport, Health and Engineering at Victoria University. He also leads the Promoting Inclusive and Equitable Community Health (PIECH) Research Group within the Institute for Health and Sport.
Dr. Rachele's educational background includes a PhD from Queensland University of Technology (2014), where he also earned dual bachelor's degrees in Applied Science (Human Movement Studies) and Education (Secondary) in 2010. He later completed a Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Education from Victoria University in 2021.
His primary research focus is on understanding how urban design can reduce health inequalities. Dr. Rachele has extensive experience in social epidemiology and public health research, having previously worked at Queensland Health, Queensland University of Technology, Australian Catholic University, and the University of Melbourne.
His research demonstrates clear connections between neighborhood design, active transport, and health outcomes, particularly focusing on how urban environments can be designed to reduce car dependency and promote physical activity across different population groups including older adults.
Dr. Rachele has received funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Centre of Excellence in Healthy Liveable Communities and The Australian Prevention Partnership Centre.
He actively supervises PhD students and has an extensive publication record including peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, research reports, and conference presentations.
