About
Jero Ahola is a full professor of energy efficiency in electrically driven systems and head of the Department of Electrical Engineering at LUT University, Finland. He holds M.Sc. and D.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering from LUT University (1999 and 2003). His research focuses on power-to-X processes, green hydrogen production via water electrolysis, solar PV applications, and energy efficiency in industrial systems. Notably, his team pioneered the "Fuel from Air" (SOLETAIR) and "Food from Electricity" (Neo-Carbon Food) pilot projects in 2017 and 2019, respectively. He also serves on the boards of Finnish energy grid TSOs Fingrid Oyj and Gasgrid Finland Oy.
Research interests include renewable energy integration, molten salt electrolysis for CO2 conversion, and optimizing electrolyzer systems for grid stability. He has contributed to techno-economic evaluations of hydrogen production and waste heat recovery, with a focus on northern climate applications. Key publications address dynamic modeling of electrolyzers, power quality impacts, and hybrid energy systems.
His work bridges academic research and industrial collaboration, emphasizing sustainability and scalability of clean energy technologies.
