Dr. Jerilyn Swann is a Professor of Biology at Maryville College, serving in administrative roles as Associate Academic Dean and Director of Institutional Research since 2019. She joined the faculty in 1999 and previously held leadership positions including Chair of the Natural Sciences Division (2011-2017) and Faculty Chair (2017-2019).
- Education: B.S., M.S., Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (1992-1998)
Her research focuses on cell and tissue biology, particularly studying ciliated cells in mammalian tracheal and palatine epithelia, as well as the protist Tetrahymena pyriformis. Her work spans microscopy techniques, toxicology, and environmental health.
Dr. Swann actively engages students in research, mentoring them at scientific conferences like the American Society for Cell Biology meetings, and leads educational trips to Costa Rica for life science and outdoor fitness experiences.
